Yakubu Shehu Abdullahi, known in Bauchi politics by his traditional title Wakilin Birni (printed surname-first by INEC as SHEHU YAKUBU ABDULLAHI), is the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Bauchi South Senatorial District in the Senate election of 16 January 2027 (INEC final list, 12 September 2026). INEC lists him as a 51-year-old man whose declared qualifications are the First School Leaving Certificate, a WAEC certificate and a degree certificate. He has described a rice mill in Bauchi as his property.
He won the Bauchi constituency seat in the Bauchi State House of Assembly on the APC in 2015. After losing the APC House of Representatives primary of 4 October 2018 he joined the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), blaming then-Governor Mohammed Abubakar for forcing him out, and on 23 February 2019 won Bauchi Federal Constituency, beating the PDP's Aliyu Aminu Garu and the governor's adviser Sabo Mohammed. He served in the 9th House (2019-2023) and allied with Speaker Yakubu Dogara. In December 2020 the Bauchi PRP disowned his appearance at an APC by-election rally in Dass and suspended him for 12 months; his defection to the APC was read on the House floor on 16 February 2021. In May 2021 the Bauchi Emirate Council suspended him indefinitely as Wakilin Birnin Bauchi for alleged disrespect at the Sallah homage; he said Governor Bala Mohammed was behind it. In 2021 he also filed a criminal defamation complaint against a football coach, and in October 2021 the state government demolished a building of his in Bauchi, saying the property was improperly acquired; he said he bought it lawfully, called it victimisation and had sued the government (outcomes not found).
In mid-2022 he moved to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and claimed its Bauchi South Senate ticket, but its primary of 5 June 2022 went to Senator Lawal Yahaya Gumau (230 votes to none for him); he called it a charade. In June 2022 a complaint he made to the police over a WikkiTimes report on the death of APC chairman Hussaini Musa Gwaba led to the arrest and prosecution of the outlet's publisher and a reporter; the case was later dismissed, according to The ICIR. Back in the APC by March 2023 as a member of its governorship campaign council, he was declared wanted by the Bauchi police on 14 March 2023, with a N1 million bounty, for alleged conspiracy, grievous hurt, disturbance of public peace and culpable homicide over the 8 March 2023 violence at an APC rally in Duguri in which one person died. He denied the allegations and blamed Governor Bala Mohammed; Dogara accused the police of colluding with the state government. No arrest, charge or court case was found in public sources up to October 2026.
He won the APC's Bauchi South senatorial primary with 25,762 votes against four other aspirants (result announced 18 May 2026), ahead of Brig.-Gen. Abubakar Suleiman Maikano (retd, 6,870) and Shehu Aliyu Musa (INEC: Musa Shehu Aliyu; 6,648 per Daily Post, 6,448 per Leadership); aspirant Abdulmumini Kundak alleged irregularities. His opponents for the seat include Governor Bala Mohammed (APM), Danjuma Adamu Dabo (PDP) and Musa Shehu Aliyu (PRP).
