Zakari Salisu, known in Bauchi politics as Salisu Zakari Ningi, is the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) candidate for Bauchi Central Senatorial District in the Senate election of 16 January 2027 (INEC final list, 12 September 2026, which lists him as a 57-year-old man with FSLC, SSCE and a degree). A September 2026 statement by the PRP governorship campaign of Senator Shehu Buba named him as the party's Bauchi Central senatorial candidate. His own biography gives his birth as 4 April 1969 in Ningi and lists service in the Military Police (1988-92) and work as a secondary-school teacher in Bauchi (2001-07). In the April 2007 election for Ningi/Warji Federal Constituency he ran for the ANPP and was declared winner over the incumbent, Abdul Ahmed Ningi (PDP), by 66,724 votes to 43,828; on Ningi's petition the Court of Appeal in Jos gave judgment on 5 June 2008 and Zakari lost the seat. A separate challenge to his ANPP nomination by Adamu Shehu Suleiman was dismissed by the Bauchi tribunal in September 2007. Under Governor Isa Yuguda he then served as Commissioner for Youth and Sports (2008-10, by his own account) and as Special Adviser on Tourism (from 2011). He won the Ningi/Warji seat on the APC platform in 2015 and was vice chairman of the House Committee on Banking and Currency. In March 2015 a constituent sued him and INEC at the Federal High Court, Bauchi, alleging that he had been removed from the Army and had given false information in his nomination forms; the case was adjourned in October 2015 and no outcome was found. On 24 July 2018 he left the APC for the PDP with Speaker Yakubu Dogara's camp, and he lost the seat as the PDP candidate in February 2019. In a letter dated 6 September 2020 he resigned from the PDP to return to the APC. He held the traditional title Kauran Ningi from 2007 until the Ningi Emirate Council withdrew it with effect from 17 November 2023, citing his criticism of the Ningi township road project; he said he had questioned only the road's stated length and was challenging the council's reasons.
