Samaila Dahuwa Kaila (INEC: KAILA SAMAILA DAHUWA) is the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) candidate for Bauchi North Senatorial District in the Senate election of 16 January 2027 (INEC final list, 12 September 2026), and the district's serving senator. A medical doctor from Katagum Local Government Area who holds the traditional title Kachallan Katagum, he declared an MBBS to INEC and was described in 2018 as a former staff member of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA). He says he was running his own hospital when Muhammad Ali Pate drew him into politics as de facto secretary of Pate's campaign for the PDP governorship ticket in 2015, a bid that ended at the primary. In 2018 he sought the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) governorship ticket, a party he says he helped bring to Bauchi in 2017; reported in November 2018 as a defeated aspirant (he says he withdrew late in the contest), he joined the APC at a Bauchi press conference on 19 or 20 November 2018 and, by his account, was director of mobilisation for Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar's unsuccessful 2019 re-election campaign. Invited into the PDP by Governor Bala Mohammed around 2021, he says he first chaired the state hospital management board; he was nominated a commissioner on 17 August 2021, confirmed by the Bauchi State House of Assembly on 27 August 2021, and served as Commissioner for Health until he resigned in 2022 to run for the Senate. He won the PDP Bauchi North primary on 23 May 2022 with 133 delegate votes (Gambo Laraba 71, Maula Aliyu 16, Aminu Yapeko 7) and the election of 25 February 2023 with 102,043 votes to 100,246 for Sirajo Tanko (APC), declared in Azare on 28 February 2023. Three petitions against the result were lodged at the Bauchi tribunal (outcomes not found); he took his seat in June 2023. In the 10th Senate he is deputy chairman of the Senate Committee on Health and says he sponsored the National Health Facilities Regulatory Agency bill. He resigned from the PDP by a letter dated 6 October 2025, citing its internal crises, and his move to the APC was read in the Senate on 14 October 2025; he has said his defection completed the APC's two-thirds Senate majority. As chairman of the Bauchi State APC caucus he opposed admitting Governor Bala Mohammed into the APC in April 2026. At the APC primary announced on 18 May 2026 he was reported to have polled 12,912 votes to 22,744 for Ibrahim Mohammed Baba; he disputes that a genuine primary took place and says he left before it concluded. His move to the PRP was reported on 25 May 2026. His opponents on INEC's list include Baba Ibrahim Mohammed (APC) and Adamu Abdulkadir (PDP).
