Philip Tanimu Aduda (born 13 June 1969 in Karu, FCT) is the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Federal Capital Territory Senatorial District in the Senate election of 16 January 2027 (INEC final list, 12 September 2026), seeking to return to the seat he held from 2011 to 2023. He attended Government Secondary School, Gwagwalada (1983-87) and Kaduna Polytechnic (1987-90), took a diploma in social work and social development at the University of Jos (1990-92) and a higher diploma in public administration at the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Abuja campus (1993-97). He was elected councillor for Karu Ward in 1996 and, on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket, to the House of Representatives for AMAC/Bwari in 2003 and 2007, where he chaired the House Committee on the FCT. The AMAC/Bwari seat went to a fresh poll on 5-6 April 2008, which he won; a petition against that result was dismissed by the tribunal on 11 September 2008. He moved to the Senate on 9 April 2011 (105,562 votes to 54,307 for the CPC's Musa Tanko Abari) and was re-elected on 28 March 2015 (151,737 to 140,886 for the APC's Adamu Sidi Ali, whose petition failed at the tribunal and the Court of Appeal) and on 23 February 2019 (263,055 votes). In the 7th Senate he chaired the Committee on Power, Steel Development and Metallurgy. He was Senate Minority Whip from 28 July 2015 until 21 June 2022, when he became Minority Leader; he was vice chairman of the Land Transport (2015) and Downstream Petroleum (2019) committees, and received the national honour of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) in 2023. His younger brother, Gabriel Aduda, became a federal permanent secretary in 2017; Aduda denied influencing the appointment. He won the PDP primary on 23 May 2022 but lost the seat on 25 February 2023 to Ireti Kingibe of the Labour Party (202,175 votes to his 100,544); the tribunal dismissed his petition on 12 September 2023 and the Court of Appeal his appeal on 1 November 2023. In August 2023 the PDP named him chairman of its Kogi State caretaker committee. An ally of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, he denied plans to defect in February 2025, resigned from the PDP by letter dated 17 March 2026, citing the party's crisis, and joined the APC the same day. He won the APC FCT senatorial primary on 18 May 2026 after the other aspirant, Amina Zanna Ibrahim, withdrew.
