Ireti Heebah Kingibe (born 2 June 1954) is the senator for the Federal Capital Territory and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the FCT senatorial district in the Senate election of 16 January 2027 (INEC final list, 12 September 2026). A civil engineer, she attended Queen's College, Lagos, and Washington Irving High School in the United States and graduated in civil engineering from the University of Minnesota in 1980. She worked as a quality control engineer with Bradley Precast Concrete Inc. (1978-79) and as a roads and highway designer with the Minnesota Department of Transportation, spent her national youth service year (1981-82) as a project supervisor at the Nigerian Air Force station in Ikeja, and later worked in Nigerian construction, including as a regional engineer with Lodigiani Nigeria. She is a younger sister of Ajoke Muhammed, widow of former head of state Murtala Muhammed, and has been described as the wife (in one 2023 profile, the former wife) of Baba Gana Kingibe, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation. She entered party politics in 1990 as an adviser to the national chairman of the then Social Democratic Party. She was the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) candidate for the FCT Senate seat in 2003, which Isa Maina of the PDP held; by her own account she fought the result in court for close to a year. She joined the PDP in 2006, withdrew from its FCT senatorial race in 2014 citing a lack of internal democracy and moved to the APC, whose FCT senatorial primary she lost in October 2018. She later resigned from the APC. In 2022 she joined the Labour Party and, as its candidate, won the FCT seat in the election of 25 February 2023 with 202,175 votes, ahead of the three-term incumbent Philip Aduda (PDP, 100,544) and Angulu Dobi (APC, 78,905); INEC declared the result on 28 February after a cancelled Bwari result was rectified. Aduda's petition was dismissed by the election petition tribunal on 12 September 2023 and his appeal by the Court of Appeal, Abuja, on 1 November 2023. She took her seat when the 10th Senate was inaugurated on 13 June 2023, was named chair of the Senate Committee on Women Affairs on 8 August 2023, and has had a long-running public dispute with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. An Abure-led faction of the LP suspended her in May 2025. She announced her move to the ADC on 11 July 2025, citing the LP's factions, registered as a member on 18 December 2025, and her defection letter was read in the Senate on 12 March 2026. The FCT ADC declared illegal a Wuse ward executive's suspension of her (March 2026), and the Federal High Court, Abuja, struck out the ward officials' suit on 22 May 2026, awarding costs to her. She won the ADC FCT senatorial primary (results declared 23 May 2026) with 17,535 votes to 806 for Mubarak Tijjani, who is challenging the primary in a suit pending at the Federal High Court. Her 2027 opponents include Philip Aduda, now the APC candidate.
