He married Margaret Brownson Usen in 1992 and they have two children. He studied at Christ the King College, Onitsha, and earned a philosophy degree at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1984. His business background includes Next International and board roles in banking, finance and technology. The BLERF biography also lists executive education programmes, professional memberships, government advisory roles and honours. His governorship ran between 2006 and 2014 with interruptions addressed through court proceedings. He later became Atiku Abubakar’s running mate for the 2019 election.
