Suleiman Mohammed Nazif, known in politics as Nazif Gamawa or Senator Suleiman Nazif (styled Wakilin Arewa), is the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for Bauchi North Senatorial District in the Senate election of 16 January 2027. INEC's final list (12 September 2026) gives his name as Suleiman Mohammed Nazif, aged 56; his National Assembly profile gives his date of birth as 14 April 1970. The ADC affirmed him unopposed for Bauchi North at its Bauchi primaries on 22 May 2026. An engineer by training, he attended the Nigerian Military School (1983-1988) and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he took a degree in Water Resources and Environmental Engineering (1990) and later a master's in International Affairs and Diplomacy. He represented Gamawa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives from 2003 to 2007 and was elected senator for Bauchi North in 2007 on the Action Congress platform, serving until 2011; in the 6th Senate he sat on committees including Water Resources, Solid Minerals and Land Transport and was publicity secretary of the Northern Senators Forum. Before the 2011 elections he left the Action Congress for the PDP and then the All Nigeria Peoples Party, whose candidate he was for governor of Bauchi State; at the rescheduled poll of 28 April 2011 he came fourth with 102,093 votes as Governor Isa Yuguda was re-elected. He won the APC Bauchi North senatorial primary in December 2014 with 1,254 votes and returned to the Senate in 2015, chairing the Committee on Employment, Labour and Productivity and, from 2 May 2017, the Committee on INEC. On 24 July 2018 he was among the senators whose letter moving from the APC to the PDP was read at plenary; as the PDP candidate he came third in Bauchi North on 23 February 2019 with 56,379 votes. In January 2022 WikkiTimes reported that a Gamawa skills acquisition centre he had nominated as a constituency project (about N20.8 million released in 2019) was never equipped or used; his local coordinator blamed his 2019 defeat, and he did not respond to the reporters. The PDP's National Working Committee approved him as Deputy National Chairman (North) on 2 December 2019. During the August 2021 crisis over Uche Secondus's court suspension he briefly claimed the acting national chairmanship before the party settled on Yemi Akinwonmi, and in October 2021 he was the North-East's candidate for national chairman before Iyorchia Ayu was chosen by consensus; Umar Damagum succeeded him as deputy national chairman at the 30-31 October 2021 convention. He announced his move from the PDP to the Social Democratic Party on 28 March 2025 and by November 2025 was a National Vice Chairman of the ADC.
