Hassan Khalid

Chairman of the ZLP in Bauchi State. The earliest dated report of him in the post is 24 April 2022, when he criticised the APC's N100m presidential nomination fee and invited its members to run on ZLP tickets; 2022 is that first report, not a confirmed start. He was still chairman on 14-15 August 2024, when he issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the Bauchi State Government and the state electoral commission (BASIEC) over the 17 August 2024 local-government poll, citing the missing 60-day notice and the cost of nomination forms, and threatened legal redress; no lawsuit was found. When he left the post was not reported.

Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) candidate for Governor of Bauchi State, listed by INEC as "HASSAN KHALID" (final list of candidates for the 2023 state elections, SN 130; age 35; declared FSLC, NECO and HND), with Muhammad Asmau Ahmed as running mate (SN 131). Daily Trust named him among the candidates by 3 September 2022. The date of the ZLP governorship primary was not found. On 7 February 2023 the PDP presidential campaign rally in Bauchi announced that he had defected to the PDP; the ZLP, through its legal adviser Eko Ejembi Eko SAN, called the claim false and demanded a withdrawal and public apology in a letter dated 10 February 2023 (Leadership, 17 February 2023); no reply or lawsuit was found. The poll, moved from 11 March, held on 18 March 2023; INEC's returning officer, Prof. Abdulkarim Sabo Muhammad, declared the incumbent, Bala Mohammed (PDP), the winner on Monday 20 March 2023 with 525,280 votes. The ZLP ticket polled 300 of 1,034,379 valid votes (about 0.03%, computed; figure from Stears' INEC-collation data), 14th of 14. The ZLP later described him as "among the youngest governorship candidates" of 2023.

Elected National Publicity Secretary at the ZLP's 2025 National Convention, held in Bauchi on 6 February 2025 (the new executive serves four years, per Daily Post). As the party's spokesman he denied in February 2025 that the ZLP had offered Peter Obi its 2027 presidential ticket, and in April 2026 he announced the nomination fees approved by the party's National Executive Council on 22 April 2026. He held the post when he was nominated as running mate in July 2026.

INEC final list of candidates (Presidential), published 2026-09-12 — SN 18; INEC name: HASSAN KHALID; age 37; male; qualification (as declared to INEC): FSLC SSCE PGD Running mate to Dan (Daniel Daberechukwu) Nwanyanwu on the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) ticket. The ZLP announced the nomination in a statement on 24 July 2026 (Nigerian Tribune; Anatare News): Nwanyanwu named him "in consultation with the party leadership", and the party called him the youngest vice-presidential candidate in the country (the party's claim). He was then the party's National Publicity Secretary, and is known in the press as Khalid Arewa or Khalid Hassan Arewa; INEC prints his name surname-first. Daily Trust (21 August 2026) listed him as Nwanyanwu's running mate, and INEC's final list of 12 September 2026 confirms the ticket (SN 18). The day his particulars were uploaded to INEC was not found. Poll day is 16 January 2027. A running mate is nominated, not elected at a primary.

Community development and research work in Bauchi State before his party career. A LinkedIn profile in the name "KHALID Hassan (Khalid Arewa)" describes his "role as an M&E officer in local NGO and Central supervisor in International (CIET Canada) in Bauchi"; CIET (Community Information, Empowerment and Transparency) runs maternal, child and adolescent health research in Bauchi State. The profile gives no dates, and this record rests on that self-description only, so it is held at medium confidence. The ZLP's July 2026 statement describes him as "a public administrator, entrepreneur, community development expert and youth leader from Bauchi State" engaged in "project management, donor liaison, grassroots mobilization, and ASRH and youth programmes."

Secretary of the Bauchi State chapter of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, the forum of registered parties. He spoke for IPAC at the distribution of materials on 15 August 2026 (15 of the state's 22 registered parties were fielding candidates) and after the 17 August 2026 local-government elections, saying the parties were satisfied with the conduct of the poll. When he took the post was not found.
