He is the All Progressives Congress deputy governorship candidate for the election of 6 February 2027 (INEC final list, 10 October 2026), running mate to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who named him on 13 July 2026. He was elected chairman of Kabo Local Government Area in 2014, chaired the Kano chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, served as a special adviser and as APC state organising secretary, and was Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs under Governor Abdullahi Ganduje until he resigned on 18 April 2022 to pursue the 2023 governorship ticket. On 10 May 2022 Ganduje named him running mate to Deputy Governor Nasiru Gawuna; the APC ticket lost the 18 March 2023 election (890,705 votes to 1,019,602), a result the tribunal and Court of Appeal reversed before the Supreme Court restored it on 12 January 2024. The Kano State government brought two criminal cases against him in 2024 over local government funds. The N2.8 billion case was struck out by the Kano High Court and the defendants discharged; the N57.4 billion charge against him, Ganduje and two others was reported to be on trial in April 2026, and he has not been convicted of anything. Police also arrested him on 11 March 2019 over alleged disruption of results collation; no charge was reported.
