Recorded outcome
Samuel Anyakorah (also spelt Anyakolah), suing for himself and the ward and LGA officers who emerged from the PDP congresses of 28 Nov and 1 Dec 2017 under caretaker chairman Chukwudi Umeaba, sued the PDP, Nwobu (2nd defendant) and Uchenna Obiora. On 9 Jun 2021 the FCT High Court nullified the designation of the Anambra state chairman, executive and LGA chairmen in the brochure of the PDP South-East zonal congress of 6 Mar 2021 and ordered the party to recognise only the officers from the 2017 congresses; press reports at the time described the judgment as replacing Nwobu with Ejike Oguebego. Nwobu called it a judgment 'delivered via zoom' during a judiciary strike that 'cannot stand', citing a 24 May 2018 FCT High Court judgment (Justice A.O. Musa) in his executive's favour. In June 2021 the court refused the defendants' application to stay its judgment pending appeal and INEC told the PDP it would comply; the national leadership dissolved Nwobu's executive. On 30 Jul 2021 the Court of Appeal, Abuja, allowed the appeals of the PDP and Obiora and set the judgment aside because the FCT High Court lacked territorial jurisdiction, restoring Nwobu as state chairman and Valentine Ozigbo as the governorship candidate. No further appeal was found.
