Bwari LGA Budget

What’s in the plan for your street?

The road to your shop. The drain outside your house. Start with the council’s budget: what’s planned, how much is set aside, and what to ask about your area.

01 / Understand the plan

You make a list before you spend.
Your council has a plan too.

A budget sets out the income the council expects and what it plans to spend for the year. Two words help you read it.

01

Capital spending

Projects and things that last: a building, drainage works or equipment. Look for the project’s name, location and amount.

Ask: “Is our area in the plan?”
02

Recurrent spending

The costs of keeping services going: salaries, supplies and everyday running costs. A service needs money to keep working, too.

Ask: “What keeps the service running?”

These are examples to help you read a budget, not confirmed projects or spending in Bwari.

02 / Money on record

The plan is one part.
Follow the money too.

We have FAAC allocation figures for Bwari. They show what was allocated from federally collected revenue, month by month.

Budget
What the council plans to spend.
Allocation
What was shared to the council through FAAC.
Actual spending
What was paid out, shown in spending reports.

A FAAC allocation is not the council’s whole budget, or proof that the money reached its account or was spent.

03 / Ask your council

One place. One problem.
One clear question.

“What are you doing for us?” is easy to dodge. Try naming your street, the work it needs, and the information you want.

Before work starts

“Is it in the budget?”

Ask for the budget line, the amount approved and who is responsible.

When work is promised

“When should it happen?”

Ask for the start date and what the finished work should look like.

When it is marked complete

“What was actually done?”

Compare the spending report with what you can see. Keep dated notes and photos.
