Eric Opah (INEC: OPAH ERIC CHINEMEUCHEYA) is the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Abia State for the election of 6 February 2027 (INEC final list, 10 October 2026), with Godswill Agu Egbe as his running mate. INEC lists him as a 55-year-old man. A businessman from Mbubo Nsulu, he founded and heads the shipping and logistics company Fortune Global Shipping & Logistics Limited, having started in logistics at Panalpina and served as an air-cargo director at China Southern Air Cargo. He holds a BSc in Business Administration, received an honorary doctorate in business administration in 2023 and was named The Sun Entrepreneur of the Year for 2025. He founded the Eric Opah Foundation and presides over the Mbubo Transformation Group and the Umunna-Nsulu Progressive Forum. He first sought the governorship in early 2023 as a PDP aspirant: the PDP national executive cleared him on 2 February 2023 for the rerun primary of 4 February, held after Prof. Uche Ikonne's death, and the party's candidate in the March 2023 poll was Okey Ahiwe. The APC says he joined it in 2023; critics in the party called him a new entrant. He declared for the APC ticket on 13 May 2026 and was declared winner of the primary of 21 May 2026 with 126,977 votes (125,977 in the party's own figure) against former Minister of State for Science and Technology Henry Ikoh's 5,905, after aspirant Mascot Uzor Kalu withdrew. Ikoh's camp rejected the result, saying 13 of the 18 members of the state working committee had adopted Ikoh as consensus candidate, and Ikoh petitioned the party's appeal committee; the state party maintains Opah is the candidate. He presented Egbe as his running mate in Umuahia on 5 October 2026.
