Onawo Mohammed Ogoshi (styled Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo in the press; INEC prints the surname first) is the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) governorship candidate in Nasarawa State for the election of 6 February 2027 (INEC final list, 10 October 2026), with Dangana Faith as his running mate. INEC lists him as a 74-year-old man whose declared qualifications are a first school leaving certificate and SSCE. He is the serving senator for Nasarawa South, elected on the PDP ticket and in office since 13 June 2023. He is a former Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly and, according to Daily Trust, has won elections five times: twice to the Assembly for Doma North, twice to the House of Representatives for Awe/Doma/Keana and once to the Senate (about 16 years in the legislature before 2023, by his own account). In 2018 the PDP governorship candidate David Ombugadu named him running mate; the PDP ticket polled 184,281 votes to the APC's 327,229 on 9 March 2019, and the Supreme Court dismissed Ombugadu's appeal on 18 December 2019. Onawo did not get the 2019 PDP senatorial ticket, won it on 23 May 2022 (88 votes to Mike Omeri's 76) and defeated Senator Tanko Al-Makura in the 2023 election (93,064 votes to 76,813); Al-Makura withdrew his tribunal petition on 3 June 2023. He chairs the Senate Committee on Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy. The PDP suspended him and two other chieftains indefinitely over its Nasarawa congresses (Daily Trust, 28 March 2020), and in September 2024 he led 16 PDP members to the Doma High Court, which restrained the party's congresses; a May 2025 report says an appeal judgment went against his faction. He resigned from the PDP on 10 January 2026, was among nine senators whose move to the ADC was announced in the Senate on 12 March 2026, and lost the ADC governorship primary (15,282 votes to Nuhu Angbazo's 23,931), which he called a sham. He left the ADC with effect from 15 June 2026 and joined the APM (his letter was read in the Senate on 7 July 2026). On 12 September 2026 APM delegates in Lafia affirmed him as candidate after the party's earlier candidate and state chairman, Mohammed Auwal, withdrew; INEC's 10 October list carries him.
