Mbaba Michael Bush, who campaigns as Michael Bush, is the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom State for the election of 6 February 2027 (INEC final list, 10 October 2026), with Salome Ignatius Mathew as his running mate. INEC lists him as a 55-year-old man whose declared qualifications are the First School Leaving Certificate, GCE and a degree (BA). Premium Times reports that he hails from Uruan Local Government Area. Bush is a broadcaster and media entrepreneur: founder and chief executive of the Uyo media company Bush House Nigeria, described by Leadership as a radio talk-show host and The Sun columnist. Premium Times reports that he served as a special assistant on electronic media to former Governor Udom Emmanuel (years not found). A PDP member, he was among the leading campaigners for Governor Umo Eno in 2023 and later fell out with him: in November 2025, after Eno moved from the PDP to the APC, he publicly accused the governor of "deceiving" Akwa Ibom people with his "Akwa Ibom United" slogan and demanded an apology. On 1 April 2026 he declared for the PDP governorship ticket; he then moved to the Labour Party and, according to Premium Times, won its governorship primary and was declared the candidate in Uyo on 30 May 2026. Leadership reported on 31 May 2026 that a rival LP faction had declared Emmanuel Friday Ben its candidate after a separate primary; INEC's final list names Bush. Premium Times also reports earlier bids for local government chairman and the State House of Assembly that did not reach the ballot (undated).
