Mahmoud Babamaji

Mahmoud Babamaji Abubakar (INEC prints him “Babamaji Mahmood”; the press writes Mahmoud or Mahmood Babamaji) is the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) deputy governorship candidate in Bauchi State, running mate to Yakubu Adamu, for the election of 6 February 2027 (INEC final list, 10 October 2026). The party affirmed the pair at a gathering at Government House, Bauchi, on 28 May 2026 (Tribune). He was nominated to Governor Bala Mohammed’s cabinet from Bauchi Local Government Area on 24 July 2023 and sworn in as Commissioner for Commerce and Industry on 14 August 2023. He left the cabinet shortly before the August 2024 council poll to seek the PDP ticket for the chairmanship of Bauchi Local Government, won the seat on 17 August 2024 when the PDP took all 20 chairmanships, and was sworn in on 18 August 2024, speaking on behalf of the new chairmen. He also chaired the Bauchi State branch of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), reported from February 2025 to April 2026. Governor Mohammed moved from the PDP to the APM on 2 May 2026, and Babamaji was named the APM running mate by 28 May 2026; the date he himself changed party was not found. The next council poll, on 17 August 2026, was won in Bauchi LGA by Umar Mohammed (APM), who was sworn in with 19 other chairmen on 18 August 2026, so his term is recorded as ended on that day; no source gives his own last day in office. INEC records his declared qualifications as a First School Leaving Certificate and SSCE.
