John James Akpanudoedehe (INEC: JOHN JAMES AKPANUDOEDEHE, age 62) is the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom for the election of 6 February 2027 (INEC final list, 10 October 2026), with Nsien Mkpombuk Tommy as running mate. He won the ADC direct primary of 22 May 2026 with 66,099 votes against 103 for Mfon Peters, who rejected the result. A businessman (chairman of the John Silver group) with a B.Sc in Sociology and Anthropology from the University of Uyo and an M.Sc from the University of Calabar (2006, his own account), he was elected chairman of Uyo Local Government Area in 1996 and represented Akwa Ibom North East in the Senate on the PDP ticket from 1999 to 2003, where he chaired the privatisation committee. President Yar'Adua made him Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory in July 2007; he was dropped in the cabinet reshuffle of 29 October 2008. He has been a serial governorship contender. As the Action Congress of Nigeria candidate in 2011 he lost to Godswill Akpabio and rejected the result; during that campaign he was charged with treason in Abuja and was discharged and acquitted on 27 May 2013, the judge saying the charge was brought to harass him. A founding member of the APC in Akwa Ibom by his own account, he lost the party's governorship primaries in December 2014, 2018 and 2022, and sued over the 2014 primary before withdrawing in February 2016. He sat on the Nigerian Ports Authority board from March 2020 to January 2021 and was secretary of the APC's Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee from its constitution on 25 June 2020 until a committee vote of no confidence on 8 March 2022, which he disputed. He resigned from the APC on 4 June 2022, took the NNPP's governorship ticket on 6 June and polled 12,509 votes in the 18 March 2023 election, won by Umo Eno; his petition was dismissed by the tribunal on 27 September 2023 and his appeal on 24 November 2023. He left the NNPP on 30 June 2025 and was leading the ADC in Akwa Ibom by September 2025. Reports differ on his birth year (1963 on INEC's age and a press birthday report; 1960 on his own old website and BLERF), so no date of birth is stored.
