David Adejo Olofu (INEC name: Olofu David Adejo; styled "Dr.") is the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for Benue South Senatorial District in the Senate election of 16 January 2027 (INEC final list, 12 September 2026). He is from Apa LGA and has said he studied at the University of Agriculture, Makurdi; INEC lists his qualifications as the FSLC, WAEC and a B.Agric in Agricultural Economics. He was on Governor Samuel Ortom's first list of commissioner nominees (reported 24 June 2015), and was Benue State Commissioner for Finance by November 2015. After the cabinet was dissolved on 27 May 2019 he was re-nominated, confirmed by the House of Assembly on 18 July 2019 and sworn in again as Commissioner for Finance on 22 July 2019. He kept the post in the January 2022 cabinet reshuffle and served until the administration ended in May 2023. On 19 November 2019 he was elected chairman of the forum of state finance commissioners at the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), a post reported as two tenures to 2023. In May 2022 PDP delegates in the Apa/Agatu federal constituency primary accused him of intimidating delegates; he said he was at the venue but denied influencing anyone. He was then a senior technical adviser to the Nigeria Governors' Forum (2023-2024). In June 2024 he was removed, less than 48 hours before the ceremony, from the Idoma Area Traditional Council's list of people to receive chieftaincy titles. Reports said Governor Hyacinth Alia had ordered the removal, but no official reason was given. He said he had put it behind him. With the money raised for his reception, he launched a N50 million education fund for Idoma students through his Apa Legacy and Sustainability Initiative. In June 2026 a state commission of inquiry set up by Governor Alia reported about N139.8 billion unaccounted for under the Ortom administration (2015-2023). It recommended recovery from the persons responsible. The reports reviewed do not name Olofu, and Ortom rejected the report as a political witch-hunt. He resigned from the PDP with effect from 30 June 2025, through Edikwu Ward 2 in Apa LGA, and led the ADC coalition in Apa. He declared for the Senate at Ugbokpo and Obagaji in October 2025, where the Apa traditional ruler gave him the title Ojimeli K'Apa. He picked the ADC nomination forms in Abuja on 7 May 2026. On 24 May 2026 he was affirmed in Otukpo as the party's consensus (sole) candidate for Benue South.
