INEC lists him as a 48-year-old man whose declared qualifications are the First School Leaving Certificate, SSCE/WASSC, a National Diploma, a Higher National Diploma and a postgraduate diploma. The sources show him as a party officer. The Akwa Ibom PDP state executive elected on 14 September 2024 under chairman Aniekan Akpan listed Ibanga Akpan Brownson as State Secretary (Premium Times, Punch); the same name appears in the party's 24 May 2026 announcement of its consensus governorship candidate. No elected or appointed public office, earlier election or court case was found. The party is divided in the state. The state secretariat announced him as candidate on 24 May 2026, while a primary held under the Turaki-led PDP caretaker committee on 28 May 2026 affirmed Emem Coffie, whom Punch still called the PDP candidate on 30 September 2026. INEC's final list names Brownson Ibanga Akpan.
