Recorded outcome
Brought by his government, with the Governor of Oyo State as 1st plaintiff (official capacity). It won. On 2 June 2025 the EFCC wrote to the Oyo Accountant-General asking for copies of all state contracts and details of payments to contractors from 2021. The state asked the EFCC to name the contractors or companies under investigation; when there was no response, it sued. On 22 July 2026 the court held that Section 38 of the EFCC Act does not allow speculative, blanket demands, called the request a 'fishing expedition', and set aside the 2 June 2025 letter. It declared that any request must be reasonable and tied to specific allegations. Makinde won. The Oyo APC accused him of shielding records; he said the judgment was 'not a victory against the EFCC but a victory for the rule of law'. No EFCC appeal was found as of 29 September 2026. Filed in 2025; the day was not found.
