The places, education and experiences behind the people on this ticket.

Adewole Ebenezer Adebayo, a lawyer and media owner who uses the title "Prince" as a member of the Ondo royal family, is the Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate for the election of 16 January 2027; INEC lists him as "ADEBAYO ADEWOLE EBENEZER". He was born in Ondo, Ondo State, on 8 January 1972. He attended St Stephen's Primary School and St Joseph's College in Ondo, read law at the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University (LL.B, 1991-1997), and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2000. After national service in Kogi State he practised with Tunji Abayomi & Co. in Lagos, rising to head of chambers, and then founded his own Abuja firm, Adewole Adebayo & Co. (House of Law); most accounts date it to 2002, though his campaign profile has him joining Tunji Abayomi that year. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. From 2006 he sat on the International Technical Advisory Committee of Liberia's Truth and Reconciliation Commission. He founded KAFTAN TV, an Ondo-based television network conceived in December 2016 and on air by September 2018. He joined the SDP in 1991, at 19, while a law student. He won the party's presidential primary on 8 June 2022 and polled 80,267 votes (about 0.33%) at the election of 25 February 2023, which Bola Tinubu won; he did not challenge the result. In the party's 2025-2026 leadership dispute he was counsel and the main public voice for the national leadership of Sadiq Umar Abubakar Gombe. A rival faction led by Shehu Gabam twice announced his expulsion, in October 2025 and May 2026, but the courts upheld the Gombe leadership, and the Supreme Court dismissed Gabam's last appeal on 16 September 2026. He was returned unopposed as the SDP's 2027 presidential candidate at its convention in Bauchi on 9 May 2026, with Usman Muhammed Bugaje as running mate, and INEC's final list of 12 September 2026 includes the ticket. On 8 September 2026 he unveiled his policy blueprint, "Farewell to Poverty and Insecurity". Western Delta University awarded him an honorary Doctor of Political Science in November 2025.

A working life

  1. From 2002

    Founder

Adewole Adebayo & Co. (House of Law)

His own law firm in Abuja, of which he is founder and principal. Wikipedia and the texts that copy it (Daily Trust and ThisDay, 2022) say he founded it in 2002 after two years as a litigation lawyer at Tunji Abayomi & Co. in Lagos, i.e. from his 2000 call to the Bar. His 2022 campaign profile instead says he joined Tunji Abayomi in 2002, after national service in Kogi State, rose to head of chambers and "later" left for Abuja, which would place the founding after 2002. Companies he controls were registered at the firm's Abuja office block from May 2004. The 2002 start is kept at medium confidence. The practice covers international investment law and arbitration; he is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and was admitted to the New York Bar in 2013 (New York attorney register). Notable briefs, all as counsel and never as a party: legal adviser to Continental Transfert Technique Ltd in the 2019 CERPAC dispute with Femi Falana SAN; lead counsel for the SDP in SDP v. INEC & 2 Ors (CA/IB/EP/HR/OG/01/2025), its appeal over the 16 August 2025 Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency by-election won by the APC's Adesola Ayoola-Elegbeji, which the Court of Appeal, Ibadan, dismissed on 9 January 2026 after the tribunal had struck out the petition (EPT/OG/HR/01/2025) on 12 November 2025; counsel to the Gombe-led SDP in its appeal from FHC/ABJ/CS/402/2026, in which the Court of Appeal, Abuja, set aside on 12 August 2026 a judgment recognising Shehu Gabam as national chairman (the Supreme Court dismissed Gabam's further appeal on 16 September 2026); and counsel to the SDP at the Ekiti State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in September 2026.

The TRC's final report (Volume II, staff listing for October 2005 - June 2009) lists "Cllr. Adewole Ebeneze[r] Adebayo" as a member of its International Technical Advisory Committee. ITAC advisers had the rights and privileges of commissioners except the vote; under the TRC Act one ITAC seat was filled by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and two by ECOWAS. His own biography and Wikipedia call him a "Commissioner" appointed in 2006 by the UN and ECOWAS; the report does not list him among the nine commissioners. The report says the three ITAC advisers first appointed in 2006 later resigned; his exit date was not found.

Adewole Adebayo & Co. (House of Law)

    Founder · founder · Legal

Voluntary public declaration of assets ahead of the 2023 general election, made in response to SERAP's (Socio Economic Rights and Accountability Project) call for presidential candidates to publicly declare their assets and liabilities and reject vote-buying. SDP presidential candidate Prince Adewole Adebayo said he had declared his assets and described himself as the first presidential candidate to volunteer a public declaration of his assets; he said he had invited civil society organisations, especially SERAP, to investigate entries in his declaration of assets. No declared values or asset items were ever published by him or reported in the press, and the contemporaneous reporting is ambiguous about whether the declaration was actually published (he is also quoted as saying 'I am going to do it'). Filed for human review; not a Code of Conduct Bureau filing that is on the public record.
